Ken’s first career was in the Civil Engineering field. He graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Civil Engineering Technology and worked for 15 years in that area. Ken spent the last 12 of these years with UMA Engineering Ltd., a major Canadian Consulting Engineering firm. He became a District Manager for east Central Alberta and then a Regional Manager for the firm in the Eastern Arctic. The Lamden’s lived in Iqaluit, Nunavit for 2 years during this time.
Rhonda is a trained
secretary but was basically a stay at home mom as this was a priority in raising their four children. Over the years there were times when Rhonda also taught piano lessons.
Ken and Rhonda both came to faith in Christ at age 23, the same night, in a church in North East Edmonton. During the following 10 years Ken’s passion for the Word of God led him to become involved in local church ministry, church administative Boards and The Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship.
At the age of 33 both Ken and Rhonda felt the call of God for Ken to leave his career in Consulting Engineering and pursue vocational Christian Ministry. Ken graduated from Northwest Bible College (now Vanguard College) in Edmonton in 1989 and was ordained with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada in 1991. Rhonda is a vocalist, pianist and worship leader and they minister together.
Ken and Rhonda’s journey began in Stettler (Alberta) and has taken them to live in Edmonton, back to Stettler, Baffin Island (Northwest Territories), Ottawa (Ontario) and now to the west coast.
After working in the Arctic, the Lamdens pastored in Ottawa for a couple of years. Subsequently were called to the lead pastor role at Evangel Church in Powell River, BC (1993 until May 2016). During these 23 years Ken led the assembly in a major building program that included the sale of the existing building, the purchase of 8 acres of land and a 3.2M building program. Rhonda was involved as Music Director in leading and mentoring the worship teams. As well, Rhonda lead the Women’s Ministries and intercessor prayer ministry. Ken and Rhonda had the privilege of having their son Mark and wife Melanie with them as part of the church staff for 8 years in youth, young adult and family ministry.
Sensing a change, Ken took various seminary courses and workshop/seminars with Outreach Canada
to be equipped as a Transitional Pastor, assisting congregations going through pastoral changes. Ken and Rhonda’s passion is to see people of all ages to come to know God’s love and grace, know their identity in Christ, and be effective in the calling and purpose God has for them. Their desire for the church is to be a healthy, disciple making, Christ centered, Holy Spirit empowered body that gathers in love and unity and reaches out to a needy world.
